Sega Mega Drive iPhone dock

Sega Mega Drive iPhone dockNaturally whenever you look at your old video game consoles, you think iPhone dock. Who doesn’t? Wired’s Charlie Sorrel certainly thinks that way. He found an old Sega Mega Drive without any controllers or wires, so he turned it into an iPod dock. Naturally.

And yes it works. He just slid an iPod dock inside, secured it with gaffer tape and ran the USB cable out of a hole. Easy stuff. We like the way Charlie thinks. Just don’t let him near your stuff. Seriously. Not unless you want an iPhone sticking out of it.

Sega Indoor Fireworks Projector

Nov 26
Uncategorized

sega-fireworksFireworks are always a thing of beauty, but they can get pretty expensive when you want to make a grand show out of it. With the Sega Indoor Fireworks Projector, you no longer have to worry about your house burning down or singed hair – all you need to do is make sure they’re adequately powered and you’re good to go.

Resembling a small planetarium, this jaw-droppingly entertaining gizmo beams realistic virtual firework displays across walls and ceilings. It even blasts out suitably explosive sound effects. The only thing missing is the heady aroma of gunpowder mixed with boiled hot dogs. Impressed? You should be because the Sega is the world’s first indoor firework projector. Mains-powered, the Sega utilises six lenses, internal speakers and nine interchangeable image discs to replicate various awe-inspiring displays. All you do is select a mode, insert a disc and turn off the lights. Hook up to external speakers and we’re talking Beijing Olympics standard here, folks. We’ll even throw in three bonus discs containing messages such as ‘I love you’ and ‘Happy Birthday’.

Interested in picking one up for this coming Christmas? It won’t be that cheap though at £129.95 a pop, but to see the smiles light up on the faces of your kids with the Sega Indoor Fireworks Projector in action, now that’s priceless.

Bliptronic 5000 LED Synthesizer

Nov 26
Uncategorized

bliptronicIf you’re one who dabbles with music as a hobby and want to delve into the world of modern tunes with robotic beeps, then might we suggest you take a second look at the Bliptronic 5000 LED Synthesizer? This minimalist musical device is also an old school synthesizer, and it clearly doesn’t fall under any category of musical instrument as it churns out 8-Bit style style tunes from its grid of glowing buttons.

Once you start touching the keys of the Bliptronic you’ll be hooked by it’s simple pattern-based approach to music. In the world of the Bliptronic, creating a song revolves around an ever evolving 4-beat pattern. Each row of vertical buttons represents the notes in one octave. Push a button to turn on a note, push the button again to turn off a note. Push multiple buttons in one vertical row to make a chord. The Bliptronic plays whatever you have selected in sequence horizontally across the display. When it reaches the end of the pattern, it repeats. The genius comes as you modify the pattern by turning notes on and off while the pattern is still looping to create evolving electronic melodies. In addition to the grid of glowing LED buttons you’ll notice some other controls on the Bliptronic. These allow you to set the tempo (From 60-160 BPM), choose the instrument (From 8 different retro-synth type sounds), adjust the volume and turn looping on or off.

Another interesting aspect about the $49.99 Bliptronic 5000 LED Synthesizer is this – you can attach an infinite number of Bliptronics together (as your budget permits, of course) via the link ports and included cables allowing you to compose impossibly long 8-bit songs, where you can assign different people to control various segments of a tune.

nokia6750Rogers Wireless has just announced that they will be making available the Nokia 6750 to the masses, targeting those who are on the lookout for a sleek and stylish cellphone which is loaded with fun features, allowing one to remain connected to family and friends through the recent (and still ongoing) craze known as social networking regardless of where you are. Drawing inspiration from the human body, the Nokia 6750 comes across as a chrome flip cellphone complete with an ergonomic design which will conform nicely to your hand, allowing you to chat all the more without suffering from unwanted or unnecessary cramps. Fashionistas will be able to communicate in comfort and at length, and will be more than proud to show off the phone thanks to the hidden display cover illuminations. Lighting up in blue, orange, pink, green, purple and red for a unique touch, you also get a highly readable, large display with 16 million colors.

A large keyboard is there to make it a whole lot easier to type out those lengthy text messages as well as handle a flurry of tweeting on-the-go, while the inclusion of a 2.0 megapixel camera makes it a snap (no pun intended) to capture impromptu moments which you can then upload later on for others to view. With a web browser thrown into the mix, Canadians will be able to remain more connected than ever before, utilizing the powerful media sharing capability of Nokia’s free media sharing community known as Ovi Share.

Audiophiles who can’t live without music will also love the Nokia 6750 as it allows you to access to the urMusic service from Rogers Wireless, where external music keys make it a snap to have full control of your audio tracks wherever you are, while Bluetooth stereo adaptability lets you live out the wireless lifestyle with a pair of Bluetooh headphones. You can also tote around 32GB of audio thanks to a microSDHC memory card slot. Rogers Wireless is offering the Nokia 6750 for $99.99 on a 3 year contract.

PillCam Colon 2 makes its mark

Nov 26
Uncategorized

pillcam-colon2Medical knowledge and technology sure has come a long way from the ancient times where sickness was attributed to the devil and his cohort, and in this day and age where going under the knife often meant saving a life, the PillCam Colon 2 makes its appearance, going one up on its predecessor of the same name (sans the progression in number, of course). This endoscopic capsule was specially designed for imaging of the large intestine, and has picked up European approval recently, having been unveiled at the Gastro 2009 Conference in London, England.

During the presentation of the PillCam Colon 2, independent investigators presented results of a 98-patient feasibility study that involved the ingestion of this particular medical marvel. The conclusion that these investigators came to was the PillCam Colon 2 is a “safe and effective method to visualize the colon and detect colonic polyps.” To add further weight to its effectiveness, an article discussing the study has been accepted for the December 2009 edition of the journal Endoscopy. Compared to colonoscopy, the PillCam Colon 2 pointed towards a sensitivity of 89% and a specificity of 76% in detecting polyps greater than or equal to 6 mm and a sensitivity of 88% and a specificity of 89% in detecting polyps greater than or equal to 10 mm.

Apart from its seemingly higher degree of accuracy when it comes to detecting polyps of various sizes compared to a regular colonoscopy, the PillCam Colon 2 also offers the fringe benefits of not requiring the use of sedation, intubation or air insufflation during the procedure, which ought to give patients a sigh of relief – at least for those who are afraid of going through the regular rigors of a colonoscopy. This convenient method of visualizing the colon relies on bi-directional communication between the PillCam Colon 2 and the DataRecorder, allowing it to track the capsule’s motion in the GI tract in order for the image capture rate to be adjusted to maximize colon tissue coverage.

Google gPhone

Google has never been a company to rest on it’s laurels. An organization driven by innovation, being the leading search engine was one accomplishment, but Google has branched out in many directions with such products as the Chrome browser, Chrome operating system and Android based phones.

It looks like Google is now readying the troops to make an assault on the mobile phone industry by offering it’s own gPhone or Google phone with “unlimited free calls.”

The Google phone is expected to be one of the most advanced smartphones available and will come with a large screen display and a Qualcomm processor that is significantly more powerful then the current Apple iPhone 3GS. Google phone will be powered by Flan, the latest version of Android. Flan is said to offer superior 3D graphics and gaming that rivals handheld console games.

gPhone may launch as early as next year in the US but as more details become available, we will let you know.

If you’re curious about what’s really kicking in your holiday food this season, these chemical magnets will shed a little light on the science behind the flavor (and decorate your fridge). Love garlic? Thank the allicin–and celebrate it by plastering it to a metal surface.

molecule magnet

You can feed people and educate them at the same time. That’s the most fun (and nutritious) way of bringing new geeks into the fold.

This set of four celebrates the spicier elements in your kitchen: allicin (garlic), piperine (pepper), oleocanthal (olive oil), and my favorite, capsaicin (peppers), but Etsy crafter anandi’s store is packed with all sorts of items that celebrate the best in food… and in holiday cheer, too. This set of four magnets is available for $12. Actual food sold separately.

But you always add the Computer menu as a folder to the taskbar here’s how you do it.

1. Right-click on the taskbar and choose the Toolbars menu, and then click on New Toolbar.
