emperor1510-200_cEqw5_12-500x282Some of you may remember the If Blofeld was a gamer article that we posted a while ago that brought the Emperor 200 from NovelQuest into the spotlight. This was at CES last January, and it cost a hefty price of about $40,000.

I’m not certain how much reception the company received over that product, but I can tell you that I really don’t have 40 grand to spare. Perhaps this is why they developed the Emperor 1510, which costs $4,000.

Yes, that is about one tenth of the price, and from what I have read, it looks like it does essentially the same things. It appears to have the 3 big LCD monitors, and I hope it has the touchscreen control center.

I had a chance to try it out at CES last year, and I remember playing a very cool game on it that really made me feel like I was in the heart of the action.

I would imagine that the station is called the Emperor because the Emperor from the Star Wars movies would have absolutely loved this. In fact, this beats out that big old chair he sat in in the Return of the Jedi by far. Remember how he had to tell someone to fire the big gun? With the Emperor 1510, the wrinkly ugly guy could have just aimed and fired on his own.

There is a rumor going around that the Prince of Dubai has already ordered something like ten of these. If you have the money to spare, then you should be able to order them up now.

Hate when you miss an important call on your BlackBerry because you didn’t notice the phone was vibrating? Did you set up your ‘Berry to ring and vibrate, only to miss even more calls because the default setup will only ring after the vibrating feature finishes? Wish you could have the device ring and vibrate at the same time?

It wasn’t long ago I posted about the weather-resistant qualities of the 7D. I wonder, though, if you drop an entry-level DSLR and a pro one from half a mile in the air, do they stand an equal chance of surviving?

I don’t think anyone is too hot on the idea of testing this question, but one skydiving photographer added a data point unwittingly when his Rebel XT popped off his head at the beginning of a jump. I would have pulled some True Lies-style freefall gymnastics to get it back, but not everybody’s as cool as me and Arnie.

Incredibly, the camera didn’t explode into a thousand pieces on landing — in fact, it sustained only minor damage and both the camera and lens are working! Are you kidding me?

Looks to me like it landed in a bog, or peat or something. That probably helped. Whatever the case, let’s hear it for this heroic little camera.

decaf2

You sorta knew this was going to happen. Microsoft COFEE, a highly secretive forensics tool used by law enforcement, leaked onto the Internet several weeks ago. People far smarter than I got a hold of it, and have created what has been dubbed DECAF, an anti-COFEE set of tools that you can install to block the effects of COFEE.

DECAF, which obviously only runs on Windows, works upon the execution of COFEE. When COFEE is launched, DECAF kicks into high gear, and tries to counteract every one of COFEE’s utilities.

It’s sort of strange, but DECAF isn’t open source. Well, weird only in the spirit of the application; the source isn’t available because the creators don’t want their information reverse engineered.

Sick of telemarketers and other unwanted callers driving you crazy?  Wish you could block these callers and report them to the authorities?  Today First Orion launched PrivacyStar for BlackBerry smartphones, and puts the ability to control who is able to contact you right in your hand.  Manage your own “Do Not Call” list by selecting the number directly from your call log.

PrivacyStar Features include:

· Simple to Use – After receiving an unwanted call, select the number from the call log to add to the Privacy List and that call will be blocked in the future.

· Report Potential Telemarketing Violations – Upon the user’s request, PrivacyStar captures detailed information about possible violations including date, time, number and identity. PrivacyStar easily allows users to provide this information to law enforcement authorities so they may take action.

· Web Portal – Utilize the fully integrated personal web portal to manage blocked callers (including unblocking), provide additional details on violations and manage their PrivacyStar account.

PermaFLOW drain takes a common sense approach to clogsNow and then an invention comes along that solves problems with such a simplistic approach, you have to wonder why you never thought of it. The PermaFLOW drain is one such invention. Clogged drains are a pain. For one thing you can’t see what’s going on down there. And removing the pipe is not as easy as it sounds.

The PermaFLOW drain should make clogs a thing of the past. If it gets clogged, just turn the knob on the side and you will crank that blockage out of the way. Couldn’t be easier.

Hair clogs will never bother you again.

Morphius robot case mod

Dec 15
Uncategorized

Morphius robot case modSupposedly this mod comes from creator Maciel Barreto, but I’m not convinced. Clearly this thing arrived from the future with a mission to kill us all. But if Maciel wants to be an accomplice, that’s on him. He’s not fooling us.

This is basically a battle damaged robot with a PC inside that took months to build. Every detail of MORPHIUS was hand-carved in clay to make a silicone mold. Then the final shell was made from fiberglass and resin. So he claims.

If this is just a case mod, then we are all so very dead if Maciel ever tinkers with real bots.

The Media Democracy Survey tries to ascertain America’s entertainment habits. It comes out every year, and this year’s edition just went live. As you might image, the terrible economy played a major role in the way Americans went about their business this past year. In fact, it turns out that Americans now watch (well, watched in the past year) an average of 18 hours of TV per week, which is up from 16 hours from last year. And this is TV on TV, not Hulu or anything like that.

Let that sink in: 18 hours per week spent sitting on a couch, watching TV. That works out to a little more than 2.5 hours of TV per day if you want to average it out like that, which might not make too much sense. How many Americans will sit there all day on Sunday to watch the NFL? (I tend to watch at least one soccer game per week, typically the FC Barcelona one when it airs. So there’s two hours right there.)

The story, though, is that Americans, strapped for cash, have returned to almighty TV to entertain themselves. It’s cheap and it gets the job done. So that’s not hard to understand.

The survey did touch on new forms of entertainment, including online entertainment consumption. Only 10 percent of Americans watch TV online (Hulu, downloads, etc.), but more and more people are buying video games, which is where I spend most of my entertainment hours. (New Dungeon Finder~!) And it’s people between the ages of 27-43 who are the fastest growing segment of gamers. That’s good news for Hollywood, provided it figures of digital distribution sometime before the year 3000: these people have money and they’re not teenagers who will download a movie just for the hell of it. Hmm, people with money, willing to spend it… why try to reach them? Madness!

So yeah, that’s about it. People were broke this year, so TV to the rescue. Not online TV, not fancy set-top box TV, but plain ol’ TV.

Hopefully it’s in HD!

Epson NP12-V Nettop with Windows 7

Dec 15

Epson NP12-V Nettop with Windows 7When you think Epson, you probably think printers, but the company has been branching out lately and the Japanese are now used to seeing Epson nettops. Among other things. The latest, the NP12-V is an Atom-powered nettop from Epson, which is designed to be both ultra quiet and eco friendly.

The other bonus here is that this model ships with Windows 7 Premium, which will please many of you who hate Vista. The NP12-V is being sold in Japan for about 32800 Yen (or $370).

Epson certainly has been busy.

Personal Trainer T-Shirt is a Sweat Shirt

roland semprie shirtt Personal Trainer T Shirt is a Sweat Shirt
I like the design for this t-shirt for personal trainer Roland Semprie. It measures your workout intensity by the level of sweat infiltrating the front of the t-shirt. Although if I made the shirt there’d be a whole next level called “Patrick Ewing” in which attached to the shirt is a little dude with a sweat mop to wipe the floor down behind you.

Origin Eon18

Origin Eon18 a gaming laptop is reviewed.Powered by a 2.53GHz Intel Core 2 Extreme QX9300 processor and dual 160GB SSD as well as dual GeForce GTX 280M graphics cards, Origin Eon18 deliver a great I/O performance. But of course those specs comes with a massive price which is $5,952.

Is it worth to buy ? You’ll be the judge but you gotta consider this: When tested on gaming benchmark, Eon18 has similar performance with Alienware’s M17x gaming laptop which has a sub $2,000 price tag. But hey, at least Eon18 got a great paint brush job. Well done, Origin…
