Acer H5360 3D Projector

Jan 12
Uncategorized

We here at Mighty Gadget cant wait to embrace the 3D revolution and all these wonderful AV gadgets that one will need. We’ve talked about the TVs and the supply from Sky/Freeview etc. Today we have a projector. The Acer H5360 has just come out and is one of the first of its kind to be on shelves for us to buy.

The H5360 is compatible with NVIDIA’s 3D vision(what it uses in its graphics chips) which dispalys two images at 120Hz for each eye. What this means is when you slap on the glasses, the images converge into one a 3D image that runs at 60Hz. The projector itself projects(obviously) a 2500 ANSI Lumens image which has a contrast ratio of 3200:1. As for resolution, 720p.

The projector is on sale now for a measly £549.99. Not bad for a brand new piece of kit so if you’re thinking ahead its not too bad an investment. If you want use out of it now however, you’ll need an NVIDIA 3D vision powered PC to use it.

MSI Dual Screen Notebook

Uncategorized

Obviously CES this year shows all the goodies that are coming soon, but we cant comment on them all just the more interesting ones. One that has caught my attention in particular and hopefull will yours two is this fantastic little notebook from MSI.

With a lot of great laptops and notebooks predicted this year (like the Apple Tablet etc) one is going to need some “pulling power” to draw in the customers. This should do that job. This notebook has two 10 inch screens. The lower of the two will have a software keyboard so no more filthy keyboards. The notebook will run Windows 7 and will have a SSD as storage. MSI have also said despite the obvious power usage of two screens the book will be somewhat efficient with the juice.

However the one shown is just a concept and full details on spec and pricing are in limbo at the moment. A spokesmen from MSI has apparently said it should be ready this year so watch this space.

Boxee Beta

Boxee splash

This is a screenshot from the latest Boxee Beta.  Boxee is an XBMC spin off which should work on Windows, Mac, Linux and Apple TV, and there have been a number of worthwhile articles about it if you are interested.

Firstly, Lifehacker have produced a Beta Walkthrough, which covers looks of detail over the software, including looking at some of the application addons that include Social Networking sites.

Now, if you are looking for a complete guide to installing Boxee, then head to Liam Green-Hughes site, where he has covered the install on the Acer Aspire Revo in sufficient detail to allow anyone to be able to get it installed and working.

Of course, if you are not keen on installing the software yourself, or don’t have an Acer Aspire Revo, then one option is to wait for their own hardware (in conjunction with D-Link) to be released…

Boxee hardware

This will be produced with a nice stylish RF remote (with a QWERTY keyboard on the back for performing searches and entering information).  It’s due to go on sale in the US for only $200, although it’s not clear what it will cost (or whether it will even be available) in the UK.  Just in case you’re worried that it’s a large ugly box, the height of that box is about 6 inches!

EyeWriter: Drawing With the Eyes

Jan 12
Uncategorized

Finally! Technology for those who could never truly affect the world with a steely gaze. The EyeWriter is simply eye-tracking technology designed to let the paralyzed draw with their eyeballs.

According to the video below, the setup requires only “$50 and a computer”, plus the “free software”. The EyeWriter was apparently created “to enable graffiti writers and artists with paralysis to draw using only their eyes”, but the potential uses are endless. According to Rico’s postulate of visual manipulation (created just for this very post), if you can draw on a screen, you can also manipulate objects on it.

Loads of information and developer resources are available from eyewriter.org. Now take a look at the video below to see the system in action:

USA: Land of the Cheap Gadgets

Thanks to a well-polished retail and supply machine, Americans enjoy some of the lowest prices in the world. We all know the rest of the world usually have to pay more to get their technological toys, but only the Apple Macbook is the target of this nifty visual aid (clicking to see the full-size version is highly recommended):

macbook prices around the world

The most shocking factoid? Looks like Brazilian Jobsian disciples have to pay good money for their tech fix. According to the visual aid above, the cost of a 17″ 2.8GHz Macbook Pro is two times the US price. And Apple apparently operates in an “official capacity” in the country!

Of course, Apple isn’t entirely to blame for this glaring difference in price. Governments all over slap tariffs and import fees, to keep their own constituents from draining the national wealth paying for cool American-branded toys. But makers do need to consider more reasonable prices for third-world economies.

Truphone v3 on Android

Truphone have released v3.0 of their Android client, which now offers Wi-Fi calling, so as well as other Truphone users, you can also call Skype and Google Talk users free of charge.  The Tru Friends feature allows you to see whether your Truphone contacts are online.  Also, Truphone have improved the IM facilities for all the platforms they support (Skype, Google Talk, AIM, Yahoo, MSN and even Twitter).

There are a couple of gotchas though; you’ll need to uninstall the old version first, and Truphone are currently only supporting HTC devices (G1, Magic, Hero), but they are planning support for the Motorola Milestone and the new Google Nexus One soon.

WristOffice Mobile Phone Holder

Jan 12
Uncategorized

The WristOffice Mobile Phone Holder was designed by someone that clearly sleeps with his or her mobile phone.  The mobile phone holder allows a person to wear their iPhone or other mobile device on their wrist all day.

The WristOffice system is a simple creation that was made from an inline skating wrist guard.  The simple device is worn around the wrist and will hold a cell phone in place with Velcro.  Individuals are required to place a Velcro sticker on the back of their mobile phones to correctly attach it to the WristOffice Mobile Phone Holder.

The WristOffice system is supposed to provide hands free operation and allow a person to have continued access to their iPhone, MP3, Blackberry or other mobile device.  It provides the convenience of not having to miss phone calls because of a mobile that is located in a bag or on a desk.

The WristOffice Mobile Phone Holder is also ideal for exercise.  If a person is running, hiking, or cycling their device is on their body instead of jiggling in a pocket.

There could be some downsides to the WristOffice Mobile Phone Holder.  The most noticeable downside to the product is that it could be uncomfortable to wear.  The device would require frequent adjustments.

The phone holder could also be an easy way for someone to get scratches on their mobile phone.  Any device worn on the wrist is likely to come into contact with doors, tables, and other objects that could be potentially damaging for the device.

Individuals that are interested in purchasing the WristOffice Mobile Phone Holder can purchase the device for $80.
