An Enzo For The Empire

The European autoblogosphere is buzzing today with more details about legendary Porsche tuner Gemballa’s latest creation. After years of modifying the flat engined sports cars from Zuffenhausen, Uwe Gemballa has turned his attention south to Maranello and a Ferrari Enzo. We’re not saying it’s Darth Vader approved, but the new Gemballa MIG-U1, is…uhhh…well…probably best if everybody just kept their opinions to themselves.

Underneath the exterior modifications we’re guessing will cause some screaming amongst the Ferrari faithful, the modified Enzo includes a boosted engine to 700 horsepower thanks to a new exhaust and reworked ECU. Roughly 35 pounds of the all important un-sprung weight has been shaved from the forged wheels in another effort to increase performance.

The exterior, which has been called jet fighter inspired, stormtrooperish, and simply ugly, does include practical aerodynamic improvements. Gemballa says will increase downforce 77 pounds at the front and 187 pounds at the rear. For those times when you need to clear a driveway and clearance is more important than downforce, a button will raise the body of the MIG-U1 a few inches to keep the scraping to a minimum.

But don’t think all of Gemballa’s efforts were performance minded. Inside the limited edition car, connoisseurs will find a custom leather interior made to each individual customer’s, ummm, taste. Following the sports car minimalist tradition, owners will enjoy a multimedia center complete with a seven inch touch-screen control and a 950-watt stereo with a subwoofer between the seats. After all, who would want to listen to a Ferrari V-12 all day?

Only 25 of these MIG-U1’s will be made and no price has been announced. You can go to the company’s microsite to choose your color. Let us know when your MIG arrives so we can come and have a look at it in person.

The TTXGP just keeps going from strength to strength and keeps getting cooler and cooler. The TTXGP were able to field 17 teams for their electrified version of the Isle of Man Tourist Trophy. And now for their ongoing electric motorcycle series they’ve just added another team: 666 Road Racing out of England.

Although it might sound like a deal with the devil, the only thing hellish about 666 Road Racing is how damn fast their bikes are.

“There are not many podiums we haven’t been on this year as suppliers and that has been consistent over the last few years. We produce components for all the biggest teams that run in Europe – no surprise when we turn out the lightest, strongest and sexiest race fairings, components and accessories on the planet!” said 666 Road Racing Co-Founder Nick Potts, looking to convert their success as engineers to the race track.

The Cheshire U.K. based 666 Road Racing Ltd. was founded several years ago by Potts and his partner Jonathan Shepherd, and can show off a client list featuring the likes of the Factory Yamaha outfit, Hydrex Honda, Relentless Suzuki, Raceways Yamaha and Parkalgar Honda to name just a few. And now they’re looking to make a mark in the burgeoning field of electric motorsports.

“We want to be part of this historic event. We are out to win and make a mark not just in our industry but also in racing. We are totally committed to making this thrilling and exciting championship,” said Jonathan Shepherd.

666 Road Racing is launching their bid to win the world’s first zero carbon championship, the TTXGP 2010, via an all new race prepped Mavizen TTX02 eSuperbike, and the rider will be Nick Potts himself. Potts is a former racer in Motorcycle Endurance Championships, and has a couple of titanium parts holding his body together as proof.

“Mavizen has joined a world class chassis from the RC8 with a championship winning drive train from the TTXGP winning team in 2009. Its proven, its real and it’s here. Delivery on the day is what motorsports is all about, and the TTX02 is it for us,” Nick commented.

So that brings the entry list for the TTXGP up to nearly a score of teams. Here at Autopia, we’re not ones to advocate alternate fuels, racing, violence or insanity to anyone, but they always worked for us!

If you’re interested, you can check out the TTXGP rules wiki for the series.

Bacon, is there anything you can’t do? Seriously. Hate that gummy taste of envelope glue you get when you’re sealing up envelopes? What is that exactly? Well move over mystery adhesive, now there’s something better. The appropriately named Mmmvelopes gives your envelopes that nice porky tang you’ve been desiring. Bacon flavored envelopes, FTW! I’d be just a bit worried if I was the mailman though because dogs love bacon too. Mmm.

Tiffen Steadicam Smoothee Steadies Apple iPhone Video

The current video camera on the Apple iPhone 3GS may not be the best in quality available but for those impulsive moments when you just want to record a funny video that you can upload to YouTube, it’s always there. Although we may not be able to change the camera included on these smartphones, Steadicam-Tiffen, who make camera stabilization rigs, are addressing another commonly seen issue with iPhone video and that would be the shakiness introduced by holding the Apple gadget in an unsteady hand.

Steadicam-Tiffen has developed the Steadicam Smoothee, an anti-shake camera mount that is compatible with not just the Apple iPhone 3GS, but also the Flip camcorders and the Motorola Droid Smartphones. The mount, which measures 14.5″ x 2.5″ and comes with an ergonomic handle, acts as a counterbalance that compensates for a wobbly hand.

The rig is still in the prototype stage and no availability or pricing information has been released.

DETROIT — Honda’s telling anyone who will listen that the CR-Z hybrid is the new CR-X.

Not everyone’s buying it.

We’re as guilty as anyone of believing the hype, and I’ll withhold judgment until driving one. But Sam Smith over at Jalopnik isn’t waiting. He’s made a pretty good argument that the CR-Z hybrid, unveiled in production trim here at the North American International Auto Show, is a pretender to the throne.

“It’s a hybrid, it looks cool, and it’s likely to be more entertaining than most green cars,” he writes in his post. “But to my mind, it’s a perfect example of product Fail.”

Still awesome after all the years. Photo: Honda

Still awesome after all the years. Photo: Honda

For the record, Smith owns a 1989 CR-X Si. I’ve owned a ‘90 Si, just like the one pictured at right, and an ‘87 HF. Both were fantastic cars. Even the 58-horsepower(!) HF made a winding road lots of fun. The CR-X proved a car could offer decent performance, excellent handling and superlative fuel economy in an attractive package.

Smith is right in saying the CR-Z doesn’t measure up on paper. It weighs 2,670 pounds and has just 122 horsepower to haul all that bulk. The first-gen CR-X weighed between 1,713 and 1,978 pounds and produced as much as 135 horsepower depending upon the trim level and year. What’s more, the CR-Z is built on the same platform as the 2010 Insight, a car that offers all the driving excitement of a shopping cart.

There’s more than performance at issue here. A lot of people are harping about the car’s 36 mpg (combined), saying it’s appalling for a compact hybrid two-seater. The loudest critics note that the ‘89 CR-X HF got 41 in the city and 50 on the highway under current EPA standards. They’re comparing apples to oranges. The ‘89 HF produced 62 horsepower and weighed 836 pounds less than the CR-Z. It also didn’t have airbags, or traction control, or a six-speaker audio system, or power everything, or navi, or…. All that stuff adds weight, which is an enemy of fuel economy.

But the guys at Jalopnik don’t care much about that, and Smith’s point is simple: The CR-Z is not the new CR-X. It’s not a car that, as he put it, will “make any winding road its bitch” like the CR-X.

I really hope that’s not the case, because the hybrid segment needs a sports car. Perhaps more importantly, Honda needs a sports car. It needs a new CR-X as much as we do.

gbf over p001 super car 1

While diamonds are the favored accompaniment with platinum for most the companies in their timeless masterpieces, the Over P001 GBF supercar has broken the historical use of the irresistible metal when unveiled at Valenza Gioielli 2009, the international showcase event for haute jewelry. The Over P001 GBF project with its motto of “Future is Over,” is the result of a collaboration of world-class experts, the great Argentine motor racing driver – José Froilán González and former Ferrari engineer – Giotto Bizzarrini, reflected in the acronym GBF, from González–Bizzarrini-Futuro. The Over P001 GBF features two seats plus one with many of the accessories and interior fittings are crafted from platinum, which has been used on the steering wheel, to cap the gearstick and for the star-shaped switches on the dashboard. Platinum has also find place on the exteriors to create the logo on the car’s nose, the mascot, the petrol and oil caps and the wheel hub caps and not to miss the exhaust system, whose pipes are linked internally with custom-designed non-polluting platinum catalytic converters. continue reading…

Flir has just lauched a consumer grade thermographic image video camera called the Scout. But the price is still very heft at $3,000 each I dont see them flying of the shelves.

The technology it uses is built on Flir’s leading edge night vision and allows the user to see  clearly in total darkness, smoke, dust and also light fog.

Built around Flir’s leading edge thermal night vision technology, Scout gives outdoor enthusiasts the power to see people, animals, and their surroundings clearly in total darkness, as well as through smoke, dust, and light fog. Scout uses a thermal camera to make video images from heat, not light, and displays this video on its built‐in LCD eyepiece.

It is widely believed (by the writer of the Wikipedia article on cross-stitch) that cross-stitch was traditionally used merely to embellish household cloths like tablecloths or dishcloths. Cloths cloths cloths. What a weird word. Anyway the structure of the aida cloth used in cross-stitching made it easy to form floral and geometric patterns, but eventually people began making all sorts of images using the style, and not just for adding a bit of life to ordinary linen but also to make decorations meant to be displayed and appreciated on its own. Fast-forward several hundred years, and marvel at how far (out) cross-stitch has come:

Light Up Memory Concept

Jan 14
Uncategorized

Designed by Emir Rifat ISIK this memory storage device dedicated to Phillumeny (the collection of different match related items) has 9 memory sticks needed to be struck along the side of their casing to retrieve the data stored on them.

Its a very innovative concept and looks fantastic it would be great to see something a little different on the market  rather than the everyday USB storage sticks. But I don’t think we will be seeing it any day soon unfortunately.

To transfer the data from the memory sticks, firstly push the case from behind to choose and pick an available stick. Put the stick head at the end of the striker. Strike the stick quickly along the striker adding pressure. Now the stick turns into burned black match, making it possible to give it to another Phillu owner to share your data without the need of any computer in between. Sharing your data with others will be completed after they plug in the stick to their own Phillu.

Well that’s just an assumption backed up by the following video, uploaded last July:

I mean, if porn’s been doing it, then it can be considered mainstream right? Oh wait, that would main bestiality and coprophilia would be mainstream as well. Whoops!

Ok ok, let me try again: if your “normal” porn is doing it, then it can be considered mainstream, no?
