Baby Bidou MP3 Player

Feb 21
Uncategorized

Babies have their fair share of gadgets that most parents have come to find necessary.  Things like baby monitors and even sterilizing lights for their bottles.  One thing that some parents might also find handy is an MP3 player specifically for the baby.  It’s easily debatable that it’s really not necessary for a child that young, but if you like having your baby listen to music then it might make things easier.

For those that use music to soothe or put their baby to sleep, instead of carrying around a CD, you could have this.  Plus you won’t need portable speakers since this has speakers built directly into it.  You can also record your own voice for the infant to hear.  When you’re trying to get your child to fall asleep there is a fade feature that will slowly decrease the volume level.  You can purchase the player for $59.98 or get 1 of 4 of the Brainy Baby files preloaded onto it and pay $63.98 all together.

It’s the supreme madness of the PMA 2010 season, and although we can’t make it there personally this year, that won’t stop all them camera companies from releasing stuff. You saw the sweet new Samsungs that dropped yesterday, but here are a few more interesting developments from the show.

These freaky Alpha concepts from Sony are something along the lines of the Micro Four Thirds and EVIL systems, but no one really knows for sure what existing lens system they’ll use, if any. Engadget saw one behind glass and it looks pretty rough.

Sigma has updated its DP series with the DP1x and DP2s. The original versions of these cameras received pretty poor reviews, the cameras coming off as sort of well-meaning but half-baked projects. With every successive revision, they get closer to being what we’d like them to be, but the proof of the pudding is in the taste, and we’ll have to really get hands-on if a verdict is to be reached. Photography Bay has the press releases for you (DP1x, DP2s)

The once-mysterious Samsung NX10 has gotten a few new lenses, including a 30mm f/2 that would probably be my walkaround. More info, again, at Photography Bay.

Faux Panning Security Camera

Feb 21
Uncategorized

Keeping people out of your property can sometimes be as simple as giving the illusion of security.  Even if you can’t afford a top of the line security system, this fake one looks real enough to fool most people.  It might be overkill for most homes, but small businesses could definitely use them.  They could even be used to get people to quit breaking into your garage.

These cameras will even scan back and forth.  Only after they detect movement do they start to move around, which will conserve their battery life.  There’s also a red blinking LED light to make it seem as if the camera is recording.  When you purchase the set you’ll get a mounting kit that includes wood screws and a mounting bracket.  Each one of these cameras will cost you $59.95 through Hammacher Schlemmer.

Singing Sari Has Embedded Microspeakers

high tech sari 500x438 Singing Sari Has Embedded Microspeakers
The sari (or saree) might be the traditional garment of India and elsewhere but that doesn’t mean it’s not ready to go high tech. One sari salesman has smoothly sewn speakers in his silk saris so the saris sing sweet songs as it slowly sashays down the street. P. Mohan, a designer from Dharmavaram town, creates the garments with 8 microspeakers embedded into the fabric and a 2GB mp3 player to play music.

The sari, dubbed the “Swaramadhuri”, can play music for up to 4 hours at a time. It took nearly a month for the ten member team to create the singing saree.

There are plenty of cases out there for the iPhone which bill themselves as being made from “carbon fiber.”  Few however are the real deal, and most are made from imitation plastic.  Such is not the case with the Innopocket CF Formula Series case for the iPhone 3G and 3Gs.

The case, which comes in two color variations (Diamond Black & Exquisite Black) is made from 100% REAL carbon fiber.

Race fans and car enthusiasts will appreciate the Formula series for its “dream car” material while others will simply enjoy the beauty of the carbon fiber pattern and smooth texture it offers.

MintyBoost USB Charger Kit v2.0

Feb 21
Uncategorized

If you enjoy any types of candy that come in little tins, then you probably toss away a lot of the tins.  Sure, you can use one or two for storage, but sometimes it’s hard to find a use for them.  Thankfully MakerShed has released a kit to allow for you to change your old tins into a USB charger for your various USB gadgets.  At least it’ll make for one less tin sitting in a landfill.

The kit will help keep your iPod, camera, cellphone and any other USB gadgets charged.  The charger uses 2 AA batteries and will allow for your iPod to run for hours, which is apparently 2.5 times more than you would get from a 9V USB charger.  In order to make yourself a USB charger you will have to do some soldering, but that’s the most difficult part that you’ll come across.  You can purchase the kit for $19.99.

TV Hat Holds Your iPod in the Brim

TV Hat Holds Your iPod in the Brim

tv hat 500x375 TV Hat Holds Your iPod in the Brim
There’s often a fine line between genius and ridiculous and in the case of the TV Hat, that line depends on whether or not you’re wearing the hat. The TV Hat is simply a hat or visor with an extended brim and some flaps to both hold your iPod and block out the surround light- essentially putting you in a personal TV tunnel. The result is hands-free, glare free viewing of videos on your iPod.

There’s even a flip-down magnifying lens to virtually increase the screen size. It would be great for airplanes and train rides. Now this might look just a tad bit silly to wear on your head but the important thing to remember is that if you’re wearing one- you can’t see the strange looks everyone else is giving you! $19.95, your choice of colors and styles.

19mm Sausage Gun is a Waste of Meat

The SG19 is a sausage shooting gun. You’ve probably seen potato guns before and even marshmallow guns but the SG19 goes where these guns fear to tread by SHOOTING MEAT. This homemade contraption is made up of 19mm plastic plumbing tubing, sink grease trap, cooker lighter, two screws, a few plumbing connector parts and pipe weld glue. Hairspray is used as the ignition fuel and it uses canned hotdogs for tasty ammunition.

Check out the video:

I’m taking a stand here: meat should be cooked and eaten, not shot out of guns. Maybe if you shot it out of a gun and onto a hot grill that would be acceptable but smashed up against a wall? It’s a crying shame I tell ya, a gosh darn shame. On the other hand, if you’re going to get shot, there’s really no better bullet for getting shot with than yummy meat in a casing.

Yes, the Olympic torch is cool, as in it looks pretty neat. But it’s also cool in regards to temperature as well. The torch of the 2010 Winter Games has been carried all over Greece and Canada since October 30, 2009 and gets to be the coolest one ever used thanks to a fuel mixture of propane and isobutane.

It was designed by design director Leo Obstbaum and built by jetmaker and high-speed train manufacturer Bombardier. In all there were 12,000 torches hand-assembled in Montréal, one for each carrier. It looks classy and futuristic, not just some stick that’s on fire.

Gotta love that design.

Glow in the dark toilet paper

Feb 21
Uncategorized

Or as we like to call these glowing rolls: Light wipes. We told you about glow in the dark tp back in August, but since the blogosphere seems to think this is a new thing, and since you may not have seen this before, we thought we would revisit this amazing development in luminescent wiping technology.

It’s great if you are wiping your crack in the dark, sure. But during a power outage it can actually help you find your toilet. Surely it’s safe to wipe with something that glows like radiation.

Right?

I love Vintage radios and 8-Tracks. Many just have a retro design that can’t be beat. The kind of style that no one is delivering today. The only thing better than a well designed vintage 8-Track player would be one that was modified as an iPod dock.

That’s exactly what we have here. This instructable shows you how to do it. Clearing out an 8-Track’s guts to to hold the contents of an iPod dock isn’t all that hard. The most important thing is that you start off with a great vintage device.

This looks great.

It’s nice to finally see a steady flow of USB 3.0 devices hitting the market. The latest is from Sharkoon Technologies. The SATA QuickPort Duo USB 3.0 docking station. It will hold a few SATA hard drives/SSDs, and is backwards compatible with USB 2.0. It holds 2.5” and 3.5” SATA hard drives and SSDs.

While not much to look at, it sure will come in handy for backing up data. The device includes two USB 3.0 ports and retails for 59.90 Euros if you’re want to pick one up.

Huawei’s E398 triple-mode modem is the first triple-mode LTE modem in the world that is compatible with all three major network standards: LTE, UMTS and GSM. It will give you high speed LTE access and allow you to switch over to UMTS or GSM without a problem when LTE is not available.

The E398 is also specially designed to address requirements for operators to introduce commercial LTE services with flexible evolution roadmaps. Look for it to hit Sweden initially from Net4Mobility.
