Faceless Watch

Feb 28
Uncategorized

Of all the watches I’ve come across, this is probably one of the strangest out there.  It has straight forwards hands, and convenient notches to help you read the time.  Really, while it is strange, it is extremely straightforward as far as reading the time goes.  Which to me is perfectly fine.  I wouldn’t want to deal with a watch that you can barely read on a regular basis.  The big twist with this watch is that the back of it is completely clear.

It’ll show through every last one of your arm hairs.  Making it even more true when you say the time is a hair past a freckle.  I’m not sure that I’d want my arm featured so much that it’s the backing to my watch, but maybe you’re proud of the way your wrists look.  You might have to wait a while to get your hands on one of these though.  As of now they’re just a concept design by Jihun Yeom.

Often times case manufacturers work hard at creating cases that look great but in doing so sacrifice how the cases feels when held in your hand.  Ergonomics play a key role in keeping you comfortable while sitting at your desk, on your computer.

The Module SmartCase from Dacha Works seeks to create the same level of comfort for your hand while it’s using your iPhone.

Dacha Works claims the Module SmartCase is the first all-purpose iPhone case to proactively augment the iPhone form factor to greatly improve the user experience.

How did it work out for me?

USB Easter Egg Lights

Feb 28
Uncategorized

Well, Valentine’s Day has passed and we’re onto the next holiday.  It wouldn’t be a holiday if it didn’t come with a few ridiculous gadgets that you never knew you needed.  These USB lights might just look like over-sized Christmas lights, but they are in fact brightly colored Easter eggs.  I have a sneaking suspicion that they probably pass them off as Christmas lights when it’s December though.

These lights come in a cluster of 8 and are filled with shiny LED lights.  Each one of those LED lights is capable of changing into 12 different colors.  Just plug it into your USB port and away it’ll go.  It’s pretty basic stuff.  Just keep checking on USB Brando and you’re bound to own a USB gadget for every random holiday out there.  You can purchase the set for $13 through USB Brando.

There are few things scarier than the Aliens from Alien, even when they are made from steel. This is the work of three artists from the Irish company RoboSteel, who gathered 4,000 pieces of steel and then welded together this “Alien Queen”.

This 8-foot sculpture would be even scarier than the one in Ridley Scott’s film, because it’s right there in your face. What’s not scary is that it is green. 90% of the Alien’s 1,200 pounds of parts are recycled from Yamaha motorcycles.

you can have it for $6,000.

Lego Digital Camera

Feb 28
Uncategorized

Whether you’re looking for a camera for your kids or just a quirky camera for yourself, this would do the trick.  It’ll take all of the same shots a normal camera would, it just does it with more class.  It takes work to be as cool as someone carrying around a Lego digital camera.  Sure, it is a bit of a small screen, but it would still get the job done just fine.

It has Lego bricks on the top and bottom that could allow for the camera to be attached to other Lego structures.  Beyond that it has a whole lot of the typical features.  Things like a built-in flash, fixed focus and a lithium-ion battery.  It also comes with 4x digital zoom, 128MB that makes it possible to hang onto 80 photos and an 1.5” LCD screen.  You can purchase it for £49.99 or about $76 through I Want One Of Those.

After going to many conferences for my day job, one thing I have always stuffed in my bag has been a power strip.  As any geek knows, there is rarely enough outlets in the hotel room where you need them.  Plus most power strips have all the outlets arranged such that you can’t plug to wall warts side by side.  Well, Outlets to Go from Monster Cable is something I’ve always wanted.  It gives you a power strip with built-in cord management.  Plus a little surprise I will get to later.

With airlines charging you for everything, traveling can be a real hassle. You don’t want to take any additional luggage that you don’t have to. You’ll want to pack the ezGear Surge2Go portable power strip though, as it gives you three outlets with enough space between each for larger plugs.

It also has a built-in surge protector that shields your devices from power surges. An LED indicator lets you know that everything is working as it should.

The 8″ cord wraps around the outside when not in use, so it won’t take up much space at all. Only $17.99.

Google Person Finder Launches After Chile Earthquake

Google has launched a special website called Person Finder: Chile Earthquake. The website went live yesterday after a massive earthquake hit Chile. The quake measured 8.8 on the Richter scale, placing coastal cities on high alert due to the risks of incoming tsunami waves.

The aim of the Person Finder is to assist users in locating missing people that may have been affected by the quake. The site is simple and easy to use and is available in both the English and Spanish language.

Users simply select whether they are looking for someone or would like to update the Google database by adding additional information about a quake victim.

As of today, the site is currently tracking some 25,800 records and growing. Google does have a discretionary note on the website advising the public that any information entered into the site is publicly viewable by all and the accuracy of the information within the database cannot be verified.

Google launched a similar undertaking after last month’s earthquake in Haiti.

Wii laptop casemod

Feb 28
Uncategorized

Sure the Wii is cool with it’s motion control and Mii characters, but it isn’t exactly easy to carry with you. However, it is for this talented casemodder. Modder OMGPedoBear worked on this project for 3 months and the end result is a portable Wii laptop.

He created it from expanded PVC sheets, and put a 17″ LCD monitor in the lid. Games are loaded by placing the Wii DVD upside-down in the front-loading tray. There are also a couple of extra fans to deal with the heat.

The Wii laptop even has a full QWERTY keyboard for surfing the net.

We know that you’ve been waiting for LG’s new OLED television, with it’s 3mm-thick display, and you won’t have to wait much longer. It sports a 10,000,000:1 contrast ratio and a 0.001ms response time. It’s sexy on the inside and sexy on the outside.

LG has announced that the 15-inch OLED panel will hit Europe this May and the US in the summer. Those with lots of disposable cash can pick it up for €1,999 (or $2,725). It ain’t cheap, but you already knew that.

You have to pay for those specs.

The truth is that cats will make themselves comfortable anywhere. On a bed of coals, or atop Mount Doom, or hurtling through space at 99% of the speed of light, a cat will somehow find a way to curl up and doze off. So the idea of including a special place for your cat to sleep underneath a perfectly good cat bed (in this case a glass coffee table) seems redundant. But let’s be honest — are you going to let a little redundancy keep you from buying a cat hammock?

Alas, like most things worth having, the cat hammock is not real. Sure, there’s one somewhere in Japanese designer Case-Real’s warehouse, but I don’t think they’re going to let you have it.

I think I’m beginning to fall in love with Case-Real — they also designed this stunning amplifier from a few months back. Check out the other stuff on their site; maybe we can convince them to start getting it manufactured.
