Landport will launch a pair of black and white speakers in Japan which are being touted as the nations first set of solar powered active speakers. The flat speakers come with solar panels embedded within their top sun facing surface capable of soaking in those solar rays.
A full battery charge is said to offer anywhere between 5 to 8 hours of music playback and on days when the sun just isn’t shining, the lithium ion batteries can always be recharged the old fashion way using a standard PC USB 2.0 connection.
The Landport speakers are compatible with most music player including the more popular audio players such as the Apple iPod. Connectivity is accomplished using the stereo mini input connections. In terms of size, these solar speakers measure 19.5 by 11.2 by 5cm and have a total weight of 290 grams. Audio output from the speakers is 2W x 2ch.
Expect to see this speaker set debut in Japan near the latter part of March at which time pricing should be around 5,250 yen or just shy of $60. Here’s a nice way to listen to your favorite tunes and do your part for the environment by going green at the same time.
